In new Mexico found traces of female domination.
Supporters of matriarchy argued that the world is ruled by the feminine. In some ways they are right. At least the people 1000 years ago inhabited the territory of the national Park Chaco in new Mexico, women were held in high esteem.
The area which is now called national Park, Chaco Canyon, and in ancient times was inhabited by tribes of Indian culture Anasazi, who left behind many structures and artifacts. Still among archaeologists continue to debate about the Dating of the emergence of culture, however, currently have established a compromise formulation according to which this happened in the XII century.
Chaco Canyon still hides many mysteries and did not escape the attention of archaeologists. Recently, scientists conducted a genetic analysis of the tomb complex of the prehistoric society, known as camanzi and the former part of the Anasazi culture.
It turned out that camanzi inherit their status through the maternal line, and the management positions were held mainly by women. Professor Douglas Kenneth told The Daily Mail that the matriarch of chacoana is crucial for understanding how complex prehistoric society flourished and as faded.
Chacoense — one of the earliest communities, which is very difficult to study because of the lack of any signs of written language. It is known that they lived in large multi-storey stone houses, preserved to this day. The most famous ancient building complex is Pueblo Bonito, with more than 800 rooms with different assignments.
Professor Kenneth and his colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania has collected DNA from the remains of nine people buried in a Room 33 — the largest room inside Pueblo Bonito. It is a vast tomb for the higher castes and their descendants. Kenneth found that resting there bodies have identical mitochondrial genomes.
This means that all of them were relatives on the same maternal line. A total of deceased relatives were buried from the beginning of the IX century during the 330 years, over several generations.
As of writing chalance was not, scientists had to establish the existence of “institutions” in the ancient community on archaeological data, in particular based on genetic analyses. In the end, scientists came to the conclusion that women “ruled” chalantly to the split of the community around 1130.
Pueblo Bonito (Spanish Pueblo Bonito, lit. “beautiful village”) is the largest of the villages-the”palaces” of Indian culture National Park, Anasazi in Chaco Canyon. Was inhabited in the IX–XII centuries. Chaco canyon holds large-scale public ceremonial and ancient buildings with intricate architecture, showing that 1000 years ago in these places flourished a complex and rich culture.
After 1150, its representatives were forced to migrate out of the canyon because of the so-called great drought. Gigantic palaces of the Anasazi were empty under the open sky.
