In Toyota’s plan to equip electric cars airless tires.
It is noted that the technology of the airless tire is currently far from commercial application.
Not so long ago, Toyota introduced a conceptual model of Fine-Comfort Ride, which was equipped with airless tires. Such tires reduce the weight of the vehicle, each wheel saves up to five pounds, in total that 30 percent of the total weight of the electric vehicle.
According to chief engineer of Toyota, the reduced mass of the electric vehicle saves energy. In the rest of the modern and traditional bus may not concede a new airless.
In this case we are talking about the improvement technology which in future will bear fruit. Airless tires on the market will appear not earlier than 2020.
The curator of the project is the firm Sumimoto Rubber Industries, specializing in the production of airless tires for electric vehicles and kei cars, which enjoyed unprecedented demand on the Japanese market.
Airless tire called Tweel is currently manufactured by Michelin, is used in gazonokosilka and Golf carts.
