Citizens demand full democracy.
Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Hong Kong with the full requirements of democracy, human rights and independence from China due to the authoritarian policies of the ruling Communist party.
New year’s March for independence gathered about 5.8 thousand people, which called for the fight against repression and the resumption of the suspended democratic reforms.
It is noted that in the past year, from Hong Kong there were numerous reports on violations of local autonomy by the Chinese authorities, political persecution, bans parties for independence, the expulsion of Western journalists and electoral constraints.
“Looking at last year, it was a very bad year… the Rule of law in Hong Kong is in decline,” – said one of the organizers of the March Jimmy sham.
“Further prosecution motion for the independence of Hong Kong, but it will grow and get stronger,” – said the leader of the movement Baggio Leung, noting that her colleagues before the March was threatened by local bandits.
The former British colony came under Chinese rule in 1997 under the formula of “one country, two systems” that allowed Hong Kong to retain considerable autonomy. China considers Hong Kong an integral part of its territory and considers the separatist threat to national sovereignty, despite the fact that the independence movement in Hong Kong is not very popular.
