It is a temple of incredible beauty.
Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White temple in Thailand, built with a very simple idea. Its Creator, Chalermchai Kositpipat, wanted to create the most beautiful temple in the world. No doubt whoever steps into this temple, leaves with an indelible impression. On Earth there is simply no other place such as Wat Rong Khun.
When you first find yourself in front of the temple, you encounter a group of desperate hands. Is hell – an endless pit of desires and pulls of human, according to Buddhism. As soon as you cross the bridge over the “hell” you met the statues of the celestial guardians.
Now there is no way back, only the way forward. The symbolism of crossing the bridge from “hell” to “heaven” means the Buddhist path to enlightenment.
Inside the temple is full of contemporary cultural references, interwoven with traditional Buddhist images. It is a work of art in itself.
However, you cannot truly appreciate the history of this temple, not shedding light on a fascinating life of its Creator. Born in Chiang Rai, Chalermchai Kositpipat graduated from Thai traditional art school. Although his early works include temples and mural paintings in Thai Buddhist style, in Thailand, his art is considered controversial to some because it is a combination of modern symbols of culture and traditional Thai art.
Throughout his life he lived in Sri Lanka and London, selling your art and making exhibitions in Europe and Asia.
When Chalermchai have enough funds to work on his own project, he returned to his hometown and have decided to reconstruct the Wat Rong Khun.
To this day he spent on the project over a million dollars of their money. Although he does not shy away from donations, the artist put the top frame in the amount of 10 000 USD for any donations, so he can prevent the influence of donors on the development of the temple.
In 2014, unfortunately, the earthquake in Chiang Mai has damaged the temple. For some time Halferty thought about having to abandon the project. Fortunately, a team of engineers reported that no significant damage to the Church was not. Not only that, he decided to continue the project, he also made his work his life.
Oddly enough, the temple seems to be almost the same as life. When new, it’s falling apart in separate pieces from old age. Then it was rebuilt, but was struck by the earthquake. Finally, the creative genius stepped forward and took over the future of the Church.
It’s an incredible love story between the artist and his art, which is very charming.
