Ranger Stanley Robertson took video of the fight between the hippopotamus and rhinoceros, which occurred near the pond in one of the South African reserves in the region of Klein Karoo.
The record shows that the first Behemoth growls at the Rhino, trying to banish it from the water, but he pays no attention to the warning. Then in the frame appears another Behemoth, and the first furious animal pushes Rhino into the water and kills him.
“We came to the dam to watch the rhinos drinking. It was pretty dry and probably was the main reason for the fact that the Hippo was protecting the waterhole. Hippos can be extremely aggressive during a drought. Apparently, when he pushed Rhino into the water, adrenaline blinding him. Never thought I’d see something like that,” said Robertson, noting that this is an extremely rare sight.
Hippos — one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, every year they kill at least 500 people. At the same time on adult rhinos do not usually attack any kind of animals except humans.
