Green vegetables are a storehouse of vitamins.
English physicians of the University of Leicester reviewed 6 studies involving over 220 thousand people and found an Association between increased fruit and vegetable consumption and protection against diabetes.
At the same time, doctors say that 86% of the adult population of the UK eat in a day less than the five recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, and 62% less than three. It is insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables leads to 2.6 million deaths worldwide, experts say.
As a result of review indicated that if every day to eat at least 1.5 extra servings of green leafy vegetables, the risk of diabetes will decrease by 14%. However, the combined consumption of large amounts of fruits and vegetables did not significantly affect this risk. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, have protective properties against diabetes because of its high content of antioxidants, magnesium and other beneficial vitamins, say the clinicians.
