70% of the samples of 48 types of vegetables and fruits have some pesticides.
It is noteworthy that even after the scientists washed these products, they found some pesticides. They encourage people to buy organic products. This is especially important for reducing pesticide exposure for children. Industry experts believe that the presence of pesticides in vegetables and fruits are not evidence of their harm, than strongly disagree doctors.
“Even a low impact pesticide may be harmful to newborns, infants and younger children, therefore whenever possible, parents and manufacturers should take steps to reduce the impact of pesticides on babies, eating mostly useful fruits and vegetables,” says Dr. Philip Landrigan.
In the “dirty dozen” – a list of products with a high content of pesticides not only were the strawberries and spinach, but also nectarines, apples, peaches, celery, grapes, pears, cherries, tomatoes, sweet peppers and potatoes.
Each of these products had a positive result for the presence of a large number of different pesticides and contained a higher concentration than other products. Pears and potatoes complemented the “dirty dozen”, pushing the tomatoes and cucumbers from last year’s list.
