Ukraine may postpone the implementation of the controversial articles of the law on education.
European Commission for democracy through law, better known as the Venice Commission recommends Ukraine to continue the transitional period until full implementation of articles about the language of instruction in the law “On education”.
About such decision of the Commission of the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine with reference to the findings of the Commission of 8 December.
One of the important recommendations of the Commission to extend the transitional period for the implementation of the article. So, now the law “On education” defines that the full force of the language in the article should come in 2020, – said the Ukrainian Ministry.
At the same time, the Ministry of education agree that from a pedagogical point of view, the continuation of the transitional period is reasonable, and will fully support this recommendation.
“The Commission also noted that Ukraine should make maximum use of the capabilities of the paragraph 4 of article 7 that the Ministry of education plans to do”, – assured the Ministry.
It should be noted that this paragraph provides that in educational institutions in accordance with educational program can be taught one or more courses in two or more languages – the state language, in English and in other official languages of the European Union.
