The Holy see has not given and does not intend to evaluate establishing a local Church.
The Vatican commented on the statement by foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin about the support of the granting of autocephaly to Ukraine.
This was reported on the website of the Apostolic Nunciature (the Embassy of the Holy see).
It is noted that the Holy see “has not given and does not intend to give any evaluation of the establishment of the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church.”
“Partially correcting the news, which yesterday gave the government source, which refers to a meeting between Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher… and Mr Pavlo Klimkin. The Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine once again confirms the position repeatedly expressed by the Holy see, for which the issues of creating a single Ukrainian Orthodox local churches are an internal matter of the Orthodox Church, against which the Holy see has not had and does not intend to provide any assessment,” – said in the message.
We will remind, on Tuesday, Klimkin met with the Secretary for international relations of the Holy see Paul Richard Gallagher in the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in new York. Following the meeting, he said that the Holy see upheld the decision of Ukraine on the creation of a single local Orthodox Church.
