According to John Herbst, the war in Ukraine is a disaster for Russia.
Russia will have to withdraw from Ukraine, because there are ways to bring that day closer.

According to him, if the US gives Ukraine lethal weapons, it will not provoke Russia into military escalation in the Donbas.
Because the Kremlin has a big problem: Russian people do not want their soldiers fighting in Ukraine. Therefore, Putin has to hide the fact that Russia’s official military personnel not “on vacation”, but really fight,– said the diplomat.
John Herbst noted that the war in Donbas for Russia is a disaster because it hinders economic development and the development of relations with Western countries.
“Ever the Kremlin will see it and realize that we need to change this aggressive policy. In my opinion, that day can come faster, if Ukraine will receive from us (“24″) protective weapons. Maybe that day will come sooner if sanctions are expanded. And, in the end, I think the Kremlin will have to get out of Ukraine”, – said the former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.
He added that the West can create such conditions under which Russia will be forced to leave the Donbass. Moreover, the position of Moscow becomes weaker. Therefore, to change his course in Ukraine in the interests of Russia.
