An incredibly beautiful place.
Amsterdam Oersoep — shopping arcade, which stretches between the streets Damrak and Niewendijk in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and designed by artists Arno Mr. J. Koenen, iris Roskam and Hans van Bentem. He is part of a larger project Nowadays for the reconstruction of the two Central streets of the capital, carried out by studios Arttenders and Rijnboutt.
The name “Amsterdam Oersoep” can be translated from Dutch as “Amsterdam magma”, and the artists in his impressive work glorified the city with all its characteristic features and peculiarities.
450 square meters of glass mosaic covering the vaulted ceilings and walls of the passage, reflect everything that defines the unique character of Amsterdam. The floor is made of traditional Italian Terrazzo whose surface is designed in such a way that resembles an archaeological excavation. Walls are tiled with handmade tiles with 27 gold characters. Large covered engraved mirrors tell of the water of life and death.
Unique chandeliers made of stylized bike parts such as sprockets and handlebars – referring to the layers that lie at the bottom of the Amsterdam canals, and the love of local residents for Cycling. In addition, the walls are fourteen lamps of stained glass, inspired by vintage lamps, still found at the entrances to the house of the Dutch capital.
According to the artists, this work is a journey through the history of Amsterdam in its main arteries — the channels.
