European officials have decided to deal with the situation.
The UN decided to conduct its investigation on the possible supply of engines for the missiles of the DPRK from countries postsovetskogo space.
“They are involved in this investigation. Because of UN sanctions against the DPRK are associated with the group of experts appointed by the UN and with a mandate to verify compliance with the restrictions. If there are allegations of violation of the sanctions, it is the duty of experts to conduct its own investigation. They can go to countries that are referred to in the charges, and to require assistance,” said resource senior researcher at the Stockholm Institute for peace studies (SIPRI) Simon Wezeman.
According to him, countries against which allegations can hold its own investigation, but in the end, history should be a report of UN experts.
The expert stressed that the exact origin of the engines will be known only after investigation.
On 14 August, the newspaper the New York Times admitted that launched in July, the DPRK’s Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasong-14 equipped with a rocket engine, created on the basis of developed in 60-e years for the Soviet ICBM the Soviet missile RD-250. Also a specialist in missile International Institute for strategic studies (IISS) Michael Ellemann expressed the assumption about the Ukrainian origin of the engine. He later stated that he had not accused Ukraine in violation of international norms on the non-proliferation of missile weapons.
