More than a hundred schools remain closed in uncontrolled Kiev areas in the East of Ukraine, according to a new report from the office for the coordination of humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA).
“Before the beginning of the school year, according to UNICEF estimates, only in government-controlled areas are about 42 thousand children of school age and 290 working of the educational institutions within 15 kilometers from the “contact line”, – the document says.
It is noted that on both sides of the demarcation line “schools were closed due to the impact of the conflict.”
It is reported that only in uncontrolled parts of the Donetsk region more than a hundred schools remain closed because of damage, the risk of continued shelling and care of the population. In areas remaining under the control of the government of Ukraine in the Donetsk region, closed 25 schools.
“Despite the fact that some schools remain closed, the majority of students can visit other existing elementary and high schools,” – said in the report.
