The General Assembly has condemned Israel on Wednesday for excessive use of force against Palestinian civilians and asked senior UN official Antonio Guterres to recommend “international protection mechanism” for the occupied Palestinian territory.
The General Assembly adopted resolution 120 votes in favor and 8 against, and 45 abstentions.
The proposal was howling nominated at the General Assembly Algeria, Turkey and the Palestinians after the United States vetoed a similar resolution in the UN Security Council earlier this month.
The General Assembly condemned the firing of rockets in the Gaza strip at Israeli civilian areas, but did not mention Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the territory.
General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding but have great political weight.
