In the state statistics service said that they are already working on the calculation of the median salaries of Ukrainians.
The state statistics service of Ukraine plans to test the calculation of the median wage.
The median salary, earned by a worker in the middle range of wages. That is, 50% of the population receives less than this figure and 50% more.
The relevant calculations are planned according to the results of information processing of state statistical observation “the surveys on the level of wages of workers”.
Through this observation comes information about the remuneration of individual employees by gender, age, education and occupational groups.
Now the bodies of state statistics calculate the indicator of average monthly nominal wages by types of economic activity, region, etc.
As you know, the median in statistics is used to divide a population in two.
According to experts, the median salary is typically 15-30% less than a standard average. Economists call the median average salary is more objective and representative than the arithmetic average.
This practice is increasingly common in member countries of the EU and the United States.
The Ministry of social policy declared that for the calculation of the minimum wage, as well as for the calculation of the pension uses the average wage indicator.
Applicable laws provide the basis of the size of pension taking into account the median wage.
With regard to the application of the index of the median wage, according to the Ministry, “it is advisable to conduct research to the scope and legislative regulation”.
