Racers from Odessa had an accident during a rally in Chernivtsi. The car went off the road, causing the driver died, and the pilot was seriously injured.
This was reported in the organizing Committee of the race.
“The third stage of the championship of Ukraine rally was stopped for a tragic reason: an accident on route claimed the life of Odessa, the legendary athlete Sergey Korobeynikov,” – said the organizers of the rally “Bukovyna 2017” in the industry publication.
Later, the mayor of Chernivtsi Alex Kaspruk has published photos from the scene of the accident. “Rest in peace and pray for the second member of the team,” he wrote in the social network.
The Odessa crew went to the race track on the car GAZ 2410 (“Volga”), the driver was 61-year-old Sergey Korobeynikov. Navigator was Andrew Panenko, according to preliminary data, he is now in hospital with a broken neck. The crew repeatedly made in the Ukrainian races and was considered one of the most experienced teams in the competition.
