Tens of thousands of people from the Spanish Basque Country have teamed up to form a human chain with a length of 202 kilometers on Sunday.
It was an attempt to encourage the government to vote for independence.
The Spanish Constitution created in 1978 after the regime of dictator Francisco Franco, says that the country is indivisible, and the attempt of Catalonia to hold a referendum on separation in the past year were met with harsh prosecution.
The former Prime Minister from the conservative people’s party, Mariano Rajoy, who was heavily criticised for the fact that he brutally silenced the Catalan crisis, was ousted by the socialists ‘ leader Pedro Sanchez without a vote.
Sanchez, who now heads the government, called for the resumption of negotiations with the Catalan leadership.
