In the summer of 1967, the photographer of LIFE magazine arrived in the USSR to remove youth for the special issue dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the revolution.
Bill Eppridge (Bill Eppridge) was born in 1938 in Buenos Aires, grew up in Richmond, Virginia. In 1968, he made the famous footage of mortally wounded Robert Kennedy, also Eppridge photographed the revolution of the Latin American music festival, “Woodstock”, the civil rights movement. And in the summer of 1967, he was shot in the Soviet Union.
LIFE magazine was doing a piece on the 50 th anniversary of the October revolution, and sent a photographer to the country of Tips for shooting youth. The editors expect to get black-and-white shots of grisly events, would be working in dark clothes, marching with banners on red square. But Eppridge brought unexpected photos. In his photographs of young people sunbathing on the beach, dancing in clubs, celebrate “Neptune Day” on the Black sea, making barbecue in the woods, listening to lectures and working in construction.
