The Secretary of state has put forward a loud accusation against Russia

Russia did not comply with the security assurances that were given at the end of the cold war, said Tillerson.

Russia violated its obligations under the Contract on liquidation of rockets of average and small range.

This was stated by U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson during a speech at the meeting of the UN Security Council devoted to the nuclear threat.

According to him, Russia’s actions in recent years have weakened the global rules and undermine the principle of state responsibility. As an example, Tillerson cited the violation of Moscow’s obligations under the Contract on liquidation of rockets of average and small range, “ignoring the security assurances that she gave at the end of the cold war.”

U.S. Secretary of state also accused Russia of attempts to influence “the independence of the International atomic energy Agency in the investigation of covert nuclear programs.”

“If Russia wants to restore its role of a reliable player in the resolution of the situation around North Korea, it may prove its intentions in meeting its obligations in nuclear security and arms control,” concluded Tillerson.

Recall that on 8 December 1987 in Washington, DC (USA) President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev and U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed the termless Contract on liquidation of rockets of average and small range. Parties to the Treaty pledged not to produce, not to test and not to deploy ballistic and cruise land-based missiles average (1 thousand km to 5.5 thousand km) and small (from 0.5 thousand km to 1 thousand kilometers) range.

At the end of June 2017 the number of U.S. congressmen-the Republicans made a proposal on the U.S. withdrawal from the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and short range due to the fact that it does not comply with Russia. In response to Russia said that they would take retaliatory measures because the US withdrawal from the Treaty would entail a build-up of arms and the new deployment of missiles in Europe.
