The data of sociologists from the “Levada center” testify that the growth of distrust of the TV is amplified with the growth of social tension.
The Russians trust the news on television for nine years, fell by 30 percentage points – from 79 to 49 percent. This is evidenced by the data of the survey “Levada-center”, the results of which were published by the newspaper “Vedomosti” on Thursday, September 13.
The credibility of online publications for the same period increased from 7 to 24 percent. In particular, nearly a quarter of respondents – 24% – said that changes in the retirement age more objective coverage on the Internet, not in TV news.
Among other topics covered in the Internet “fully and objectively” than on television respondents reporting of privacy and well-being of officials and politicians (24%), the situation in the economy (22%), protests (21%) and foreign policy (18%). Only 18% against 26% in March 2017, said that all the topics are covered better on TV.
Most often news the Russians continue to learn from the TV, but the proportion of such responses in nine years fell from 94 to 73%, and the share of those who prefers the Internet has increased from 9 to 37 percent. Among respondents aged 18 to 24 years, the share of fans of the Internet is 54% among people over 55 years – 18 percent.
Commenting on the survey results, the Director of “Levada-center” Lev Gudkov pointed out that in recent times with the growth of social tension, especially after the June announcement of the increase in the retirement age, the growth of distrust of television increased. “Confidence in officialdom is falling, particularly among young and more educated people,” said Gudkov, noting that the reason for this is “greater reflexivity and criticality” of online media.
