Units of Russian Marines landed on unequipped coast of Syria in the framework of joint exercises of the Navy and air force in the Mediterranean sea.
The Russian military was necessary to seize coastal bridgehead imaginary enemy in the Syrian province of Latakia. First to the shore helicopters landed a group of scouts. Further from the sea on the boats arrived a group of obstacle clearing, then landed on the shore.
They landed on the armored personnel carriers with large landing ships. Working out of the landing were involved in 26 combat ships, including three large landing ships, two minesweepers, of the boat “Raptor” and the ship fire support.
Air support to paratroopers had 24 aircraft of the Navy (Navy) and Air and space forces (VKS) Russia, including helicopters Ka-29, Mi-8 and Mi-24, su-33 and su-30CM. The exercises, held from 1 to 8 September, became the first joint exercises of the Navy and the Russian space forces in the Mediterranean sea.
