The representative of the Russian foreign Ministry said that the language law contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine is forced Ukrainization.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on language implies a total Ukrainization of the country and contrary to its Constitution. This was stated by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on Thursday, April 25.
“At its core, it is the law on forced Ukrainization actually total. Its provisions contain significant limitations, and in many cases direct prohibition on the use of the Russian language, languages of national minorities in various spheres of public life,” she said.
According to Zakharova, many provisions of the law contradict the international legal norms and the Constitution of Ukraine. “It is already clear that we are dealing with a solution that only exacerbates the split in Ukrainian society, will further set back the prospects for regulation experienced by Ukraine crisis”, she added.
