The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has registered a decline in the purchasing power of Russians, this was stated by the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the TV channel “Russia 24”, reports TASS.
According to him, this is reflected in the acquisition by the Russians of the goods of religious orientation.
“A General observation shared by many clerics, is that the purchasing power of the population decreased. It feels including in the temple on the sales of candles, the sales of icons, how people are asking for prayers as they serve a note,” said Hilarion.
He added that the revenues of the Church as a result of falling consumer purchasing power also fell, but the people who are willing to sacrifice at the temple is still there.
“This process, as it seems, had nothing to do with economic processes, it is more likely associated with the internal processes that occur in humans,” said Hilarion.
“That is, in the end, we observed the same pattern — a person’s desire to go to the temple to buy, say, a cross or a candle. It (the desire) is not directly related to the financial situation of this person. The processes that happen inside a person, they are more important than what is happening around him”, — concluded the Metropolitan.
