The resumption of construction of the Nord stream – 2 in the near future will not be

OMV does not expect a speedy resumption of work on the construction of “Nord stream – 2”.

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. Austrian company OMV is a partner of “Gazprom” under the project “Northern stream – 2” – do not expect an early resumption of work to complete the construction of the pipeline. This was during a conference call said the head of OMV Rainer Seele.

“The project operator – the company Nord Stream 2 is working on the plan, but until they are ready to present it. We don’t think we can expect a rapid resumption of the construction works,” said Seele.

“Nord stream – 2” includes two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year, which lay off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The European partners “Gazprom” under the project – Uniper and German Wintershall, Austrian OMV, French Engie and Anglo-Dutch Shell. The pipeline is to bypass the transit States – Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and other Eastern European and Baltic countries exclusive economic zones and territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

At the end of December 2019, the President of the United States Donald trump signed the defense budget for 2020, which specifically provides that the restrictive measures against the gas pipeline “Nord stream – 2” and “Turkish stream”. Newspaper Handelsblatt on 4 February announced that the U.S. intends to adopt new sanctions against the “Nord stream – 2” – they may affect the “European investors who participate in the project or those firms that want to buy gas,” cites the publication the words of the source. In diplomatic circles of the USA do not rule out that new sanctions may be taken in February or March, the article says.

While Russia has no doubt that will be able to finish the “Nord stream – 2” independently. Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that completion of construction is forced to be sidelined for a few months, but expressed hope that before the end of 2020, construction will be completed and the pipeline work.
