The President stressed that for several years the average lease rate increased from 3% to 10% of the cash valuation of the land.
With the right reforms, the cost of renting agricultural land can grow five times.
This statement was made by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on 25 March at the meeting with students and teaching staff of National University of life and environmental Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev.
“We need to raise the level of land rents, to increase the level of rural life. The state begins to take its land is sometimes twice what a private owner. We must apply these standards on lands that belong to villagers. Only open auctions with uniform starting conditions can abolish the dictatorship of big tenants. A result of proper reforms, we can increase the rent of land five times,” he said.
Poroshenko stressed that for several years the average lease rate increased from 3% to 10% of the cash valuation of the land, but is still too low.
“On average today, the rental price is 52 Euro per 1 ha, which rent shareholders. It is unrealistic increased rental rates on land. We have 52 euros, and in Lithuania, where land is worse – 81 euros,” the President added.
