Weekdays young mothers do not appear as we show in Instagram.
Photographer Susan Blake’m tired of seeing unrealistic pictures of lactating women, beautiful and “photoshopped”. Susan took a picture of herself while feeding her baby, put it on Facebook and asked if anyone wanted to be photographed in the same way. To the surprise of Susan knocked her down suggestions that was the beginning of a new photo project.
“In the media and in social networks I could feel the lack of authenticity in the image lactating women. Most of the photos are highly stylized and retouched. A little too much. We show the angelic mother in white or even gorgeous nursing model on the cover of a glossy magazine. I’m tired of these photos that even a small fraction did not show the realities of breastfeeding,” says Susan.
Photo Susan is dedicated to breastfeeding in all its beautiful disorder. In the photo you see tired eyes, no makeup, no hairstyles. “The reality of maternity and feeding are the prerequisites for your 2-year old child when you’re trying to feed your newly born baby. It is the unwashed dishes in the kitchen and dirty Laundry around the apartment. It is toys on the floor. This is the reality of what is happening, not what we see in social networks”.
