The state prosecution will ask the Obolon district court of Kyiv to sentence Viktor Yanukovych to life imprisonment.
This was said at the briefing the military Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko.
“Capital punishment in the case of high treason is life imprisonment. The prosecution will seek the death penalty,” said the Prosecutor.
We will remind, the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is accused of treason.
Yanukovych is accused that on March 1, 2014, staying on the territory of the Russian Federation, he committed treason by submitting a written statement to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to use Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine. This subsequently led to the loss of the Crimea and Ukraine of objects of state property amounting to more than 1,080 trillion hryvnia.
“As a result of this letter, the Russian government, the state-aggressor used its troops on the territory of our country… During these criminal acts, they started and lead our country against a war of aggression”, – said at a briefing this letter to the Prosecutor.
According to him, Yanukovych’s actions have resulted in millions of refugees and internally displaced persons, the death of thousands of people.
