Pope Francis during his traditional Christmas message “Urbi et Orbi” prayer for peace for Ukraine. The Pontiff expressed hope that Ukraine will soon be peace.
“We see the embodiment of Jesus’ children who together with their families, suffer from violence in the conflict zone in Ukraine and its severe humanitarian consequences; we pray that the Lord soon gave peace of this dear to our hearts country,” said Pope Francis, in Christmas speech.
In his message, which was watched and listened to the hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide, the head of the Catholic Church focused on the sign given to the shepherds in Bethlehem in the figure of “the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger”, in which they learned about the Messiah.
“Today, when the world is the winds of war, but already outdated model of development generates human, social and environmental degradation, Christmas again returns us to the sign of the child, invites you to recognize it in the faces of the children,” said Francis, pointing at the faces of the children of the Holy land, the Middle East, several African countries, which does not stop the conflict, urging to pray for peace and efforts to build.
