The architectural complex is located East of the modern village of the same name near the town of Kvareli, 175 km East of Tbilisi, capital of Georgia. Not very big (about 14 000) of the Georgian city of Chiatura lies away from the tourist routes. Not everyone who travels to Georgia, will visit him. Not talking about it and part of the guides. However, the city is very interesting. Interesting primarily for its cable cars, which, like public transport, carrying people from one point of town to another. One of kanatak even the very first cable car in the Soviet Union.

The name comes from the Georgian word ქვია — stone, as in ancient times, was inhabited only the North side of the river Rioni (which fits perfectly with the following quote from Procopius of Caesarea), which was rocky.
