Yacht Destiny of Scarboroug hit the whale in the Atlantic ocean, approximately 570 kilometers North-West of the Portuguese island of Terceira, part of the Azores archipelago. The sailors were not injured, but the ship was damaged and began to sink.
The distress signal submitted by the crew, took the Portuguese squad. They sent in search of boaters two military aircraft, but those managed to pick up a nearby merchant ship sailing under Liberian flag in the Spanish port of Aviles.
