The OSCE came under mortar attack

The OSCE mission reported that on March 10, six observers in two vehicles allegedly came under mortar attack.

The incident occurred on the highway Т0519 on the Western outskirts of “DPR” – controlled village Pikuz (ex. Kominternovo, 23 km North-East of Mariupol). Observers monitored compliance with the ceasefire regime for carrying out repair works on the gas pipeline, damaged as a result of the shelling on 8 March. The SMM vehicles were parked in the 60-80 m to the East from the advanced post “DNR”.

“At 13:52 patrol Mission heard a whistling sound, followed by a strike of approximately 30 m to the North of the SMM vehicles. Hearing the whistle, the sixth member of the patrol returned to my car. After about 6-10 seconds the observers heard the second shot is also 30 metres from the car SMM. The shell exploded on the plot from the South-West side of the house, which was located about 40-50 m to the North-East of the checkpoint “DNR”. Cars of the SMM covered with earth, which is scattered in the result of the second explosion. Observers felt the shock waves from both explosions”, – stated in the message of the mission.

In the OSCE believe that both explosions were caused by gaps 82‑mm mortar shells.

It is also reported that observers saw 4-5 of the locals, lying on the ground, and about six armed members of the “DPR”, who were hiding in the trenches near the checkpoint.
