Brazil took tens of thousands of refugees from Venezuela, said on Tuesday the country’s President Michel Temer.
“Migrants – it is our duty. Brazil took all the migrants who came to us. We’re talking about tens of thousands of Venezuelans, ” said Temer during his speech at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
According to him, the decision of the Venezuelan crisis will come when “Venezuela will take the path of development.” Temer said that his country is proud to have been migrants from this country.
In early may the international organization for migration said that over the 2015 – 2017 years, the number of migrants from Venezuela, which is undergoing financial and economic crisis has increased more than 10 times. If in 2015 their number was estimated at 89 thousand people, by the end of 2017, it was already 900 thousand.
The total number of Venezuelans seeking refuge around the world during this period increased from 700 thousand to 1.5 million people.
