The boy is friends with snakes.
Devesh Adivasi, a boy of seven from the village of Madhya Pradesh, in Central India, has a very unusual best friends. Over the past four years, he went into the jungle from their village and came back with all kinds of snakes, some of which are toxic. However, the boy was all for it: he plays with them, bathes them and even make massage. So far no one has bitten.
The boy’s family says his passion for snakes started when he was 3 years old, after one night Devesa had these reptiles. The next morning he told his parents, but they forgot to think until I saw how their son ran into the jungle from the village, and then returned with two king Cobra in his hand. Reptiles glided over the body, but they didn’t bite him. Since that day, Dawes went into the jungle almost every day and came back with new friends. He keeps them for a few days, bathes and sleeps with them, massaging them with oil, and then releases back into the jungle.
“We tried everything to protect him from snakes,” says the father of the boy Raghunath. “We explained that the snake can’t be friends. It’s dangerous, but he doesn’t listen.”
Knowing that Dawes plays with snakes for four years, most of the villagers are not surprised to see him surrounded by his friends creeping. They know that snakes don’t harm him, but are reluctant to let their children play there when there are so many reptiles. The boy’s parents argue that currently he has about 15 friends-snakes, including cobras, which he occasionally brings out of the jungle.
The chief surgeon at the district hospital in Madhya Pradesh, told the media that the friendship Devesa with snakes bizarre, but added that it could be dangerous for his physical and mental health.
“Poisonous or not, snakes are not meant to be Pets. And a child playing with a snake, nursing her and sleeping with her, is in great danger. Even if those snakes haven’t bit him, it is likely that the bites ever while he plays with them.” – continues the doctor.
Friendship between human children and snakes in India is not something unheard of. In 2009, the media wrote about the children of the Vadi tribe, who start playing with cobras at a very early age, to eventually become snake charmers.
