The main source of the assets was the increase in international reserves.
Assets of the national Bank of Ukraine grew from 849,2 billion in 2015 to 940,6 billion in 2016.
This is stated in the preliminary data regarding the balance of the NBU as at 01 Jan 2017 without taking into account the results of the external audit.
According to the regulator, the main source of the assets was the increase in international reserves by 17% to $15.5 billion.
“This reflects the policy of the NBU regarding the capacity of reserves to maintain macro-financial stability”, – said the Director of the Department of financial inspection of the National Bank Oleg Stringa.
Assets in the national currency, meanwhile, decreased by 8% or $ 38.4 billion UAH and amounted to 439 billion.
In addition, significantly reduced the amount of debt banks to the Central Bank: the borrowers returned to the National Bank refinancing loans 31.7 billion in 2016.
At the same time, the liabilities of the National Bank increased by 19.6 billion UAH to UAH 746 bn. In particular, the volume of certificates of Deposit issued by the National Bank decreased from the beginning of the year to 21.7 billion UAH and amounted to UAH 68.2 billion at the end of 2016.
