In NBU believe that the banking system is sufficiently capitalized.
The national Bank of Ukraine (NBU) says that the banking system needs recapitalization.
This was stated by Deputy head of the NBU Ekaterina Rozhkova.
“If you look at the banking system in terms of capitalization, while today we can say that the banking system is sufficiently capitalized. Those in need of recapitalization of banks on the results of diagnostics conducted in 2015 and 2016, plans do,” she said.
According to her, the diagnostics, the banks capital was increased by almost 300 billion UAH. Basically it was capital contributions. A significant proportion made contributions to capital of state-owned banks.
However, Rozhkov explained that the capitalization needed for the resumption of lending to the economy.
“Only capitalized and stable banks can increase lending. Also need a sufficient resource base and the liquidity of the banking system, adequate interest rates, protected the rights of creditors, reliable risk control, resolving problems of non-performing loans,” she added.
