The German Bundesrat (representation of the Federal States of Germany) endorsed the ban on the wearing of the burqa and niqab while driving.
“Full or partial covering of the face of the driver greatly complicates the identification of the person”, – said in the conclusion of the authority, who may approve or reject decisions of the Bundestag (Parliament).
Thus in the document it is noted that the same applies to any items that hide the face completely or most of the eyes, nose or mouth of a person who is driving, for example, masks.
Violation of the rules will be punished by a fine of 60 euros.
This prohibition does not apply to motorcyclists, who still must wear a protective helmet.
In addition, the Bundesrat has tightened the punishment for using the phone while driving – fine increased from 60 to 200 euros.
