The city Council renamed the national Museum of Russian art.
Kiev national Museum of Russian art was returned to its former name.
The corresponding decision on Thursday, March 2, was supported by 84 deputies of the city Council.
In this regard, he will now be known as the national Museum of the Kyiv picture gallery (the official abbreviation – Kiev national art gallery).
“The Museum of Russian art, which is now on display more than 13 000 cultural monuments, will wear his first name. It was opened in 1922 as the Kyiv art gallery. And that is the name of the institution must be returned. Under the law, the question of changing the name refers to the competence of the founder of the Museum. The founder is the city Council, according to the decision on the renaming can be made without taking into account the views of the staff of the institution,” – said in a statement on the website of the city Council.
According to the Chairman of the permanent Commission on culture, tourism and information policy Victoria Flies, on this occasion appealed to the labor collective of a Museum, but a constructive dialogue failed because those are not announced specific proposals.
