Life under the ground.
The population of our planet increases every year, and futurists believe that just a matter of time when people start building their homes underground like hobbits from the Tolkien books. Long time ago people lived in caves, but today everything is back to normal – people are starting to realize that the “house earth” is actually a very environmentally friendly way of housing. In this review the most interesting examples of such houses.
1. House in Festus
Mo, USA
This modern and energy efficient house with an area of 1400 square meters was built in a Sandstone rock near the town of Festus, Missouri. Built by curt and Deborah sleeper, the house is decorated in a modern style, which is absolutely amazing combined with almost no processed walls of Sandstone.
Thanks to geothermal heating and clever design, this house simply does not need artificial air conditioning and heating/cooling. Previously, this cave was used as a concert hall and a skating rink. And it was subsequently auctioned on eBay, after which the cave was converted into a dwelling house.
2. Home “Malator”
Wales
Modern house Malator is touted as one of the architectural masterpieces of Wales. According to the description posted on the website of the developer, the house has a green roof, and its interior is essentially one big room, divided into zones. Outside the house merges with the landscape.
3. Home from KVK Professor
Poland
This underground house was designed by KVK Professor. It differs in that it is covered with a grass roof into the stairs (also a grass) leading to the front door.
4. House by John Bodger
England
Following the two-storey underground house was built on the site of an old quarry. It was designed by architect John Bodger order for Phil and Helen Reddy in 2002, along with the maximum possible use of natural resources for lighting, heating and ventilation.
5. Home “Sedum”
England
As paradoxical as it sounds (because of underground construction), this house was built in order to maximize the use of natural sunlight. Also “Sedum” eco-friendly, easy for heating and cooling and boasts a unique system of rainwater harvesting. What is not a house of the future.
6. Home “Flower petals”
England
The former captain of the football team “Manchester United” ordered this eco-friendly underground home in Bolton, England. Square energy efficient home with four bedrooms is 743 square meters. Its “petals” that have been made for natural lighting, completely in harmony with the surrounding Pennine hills.
7. The house from “Deca”
Greece
This rectangular structure was designed “Deca” as an environmentally friendly home, utilizing natural light and heat, and for cooling here we will use the cross wind. Built between the slopes of two adjacent hillsides, the house has a simple layout that blends well with the surrounding desert, “adding” the elements of traditional Greek design.
8. Complex “Vetsch Architektur”
Switzerland
This Swiss estate, designed by Vetsch Architektur, consists of 9 houses connected by stairs, a shared basement, and even underground Parking. The land here is used as insulation that efficiently protects the structure from rain, strong temperature gradients and wind.
9. “Hobbit house”
Vals, Switzerland
Another Swiss house was designed by Studio “Christian Muller Architect”. Waltz is famous for its thermal baths and the incredible scenery that fits perfectly is the “house of hobbit”. Since the building is located underground, it is almost not necessary to heat and warm.
10. House in the mountains Sehend
Kandovan, Iran
Located in Iran, in the mountains Sehend, these 700 year old dwellings carved into natural volcanic rocks. Although the cave house is very ancient, they were updated today equipped with all modern amenities.
