The population of our planet increases every year, and futurists believe that just a matter of time when people start building their homes underground like hobbits from the Tolkien books. Long time ago people lived in caves, but today everything is back to normal – people are starting to realize that the “house earth” is actually a very environmentally friendly way of housing. In this review the most interesting examples of such houses.

1. House in Festus

This modern and energy efficient house with an area of 1400 square meters was built in a Sandstone rock near the town of Festus, Missouri. Built by curt and Deborah sleeper, the house is decorated in a modern style, which is absolutely amazing combined with almost no processed walls of Sandstone.

Thanks to geothermal heating and clever design, this house simply does not need artificial air conditioning and heating/cooling. Previously, this cave was used as a concert hall and a skating rink. And it was subsequently auctioned on eBay, after which the cave was converted into a dwelling house.
