The most strange buildings, built in the USSR. Photo

The architecture of the mid-20th century is not at all admirable in most people.

In the former Communist countries of Europe and Central Asian architects of the time built some spectacular, but frankly absurd buildings before the Soviet era ended in the late 20th century.

Many of these structures survived the fall of the Berlin wall and stand still. Here you will see 13 of the most awkward structures, created by Soviet architects.

“Revolution monument” in Moslavina, Croatia (former Yugoslavia), is an abstract sculpture. The monument is dedicated to the struggle of the local population for their independence during the Second world war.

In this building in Georgia originally housed the Ministry of highways. It looks like you did a job on him with photoshop. Now there is a commercial Bank.

Huge house-a monument resembling a UFO, was once a sanctuary of the Bulgarian Communist party. It stands on the peak of Buzludzha in the mountainous part of the country.

Inside the house-monument of feel like I’ve been put in the Cathedral. Now the building is completely abandoned, the roof collapsed and the walls are covered with graffiti.

The hotel Forum in Krakow, Poland, is another example of how built in the 1970s, the Communist architects. Ugly building seems to be lifted above the ground.

Memorial Makedonium built in the 1970-ies in memory of the uprising against Ottoman rule in the early 1900’s. The monument is made in a futuristic style and looks quite strange.

Abandoned circus in Chisinau. It is a clumsy building was built in 1981.

Built in 1981, this monument is located on a hill above the city of Shumen, Bulgaria. Strange bulky concrete sculpture symbolizes the formation of the Bulgarian state. Giant angular shapes with a height of tens of meters look threatening.

This resort in Ukraine combines two late-Soviet architectural style: the building as if hanging in the air above the ground and resembles a UFO.

The building of Slovak radio in Bratislava was built 16 years, because it is, in fact, inverted.

In Saint-Petersburg, State scientific center of Russia Central research Institute of robotics and technical Cybernetics looks like a kind of temple of Satanists.

Another memorial was built in Bosnia by the same sculptor, the project which was erected “the Monument of the revolution” in Croatia. The memorial symbolizes the eternal struggle of light and darkness.

The hotel “salute” in Kiev was constructed by architect Abraham Miletsky in 1984. As well as the building of the sanatorium has already been mentioned here, the hotel is very reminiscent of the alien spacecraft.

Is there any regret that some of the most Grand buildings imaginable, never been built – for example, the Palace of Soviets with a height of 500 meters. Its construction was halted due to the outbreak of the Second world war and the project never came back.
