The most harmful alcoholic drink was vodka, beer or whiskey and energy drinks containing alcohol.
Researchers at the University of Victoria analyzed data from people who drink alcoholic energy drinks and alcoholic beverages in its purest form. Those who give the advantage to the first – often complain of problems with heart, brain and more likely to have accidents compared to those who drink alcohol in its pure form.
In addition to falls and car accidents the researchers also analyzed data on suicidal behaviour and violence. Based on the results of the study, the researchers stated that these risks are several times higher for those who drink cocktails of energy drinks and alcohol.
“The stimulating effects of caffeine in energy drinks can mask the sedative effects of alcohol. While energy drinks do not reduce the harmful effects of alcohol on the body, particularly the human brain”, the study says.
