In 2017, Ukraine sharply increased sugar exports to Asia and Africa.
Ukraine in January-March 2017 exported 267,4 thousand tons of sugar, which is 9 times higher than for the same period last year, reported the press service of the Association “Ukrainian agrarian Confederation”.
In monetary terms, Ukraine in the first quarter of exported sugar at 131.5 million dollars, that is 1.3% of the total national exports.
According to the report, the main buyers of Ukrainian sugar in January-March this year were côte d’ivoire (12.3 percent), Sri Lanka (12.2 per cent) and Myanmar (9.1 per cent).
Earlier, the national Association of sugar producers of Ukraine “Ukrtsukor” reported that, in General, from the beginning of the 2016-2017 marketing year (MG, September 2016 – August 2017) Ukraine exported 611,1 thousand tons of sugar. According to the data of Ministry of agrarian policy, Ukrainian companies for the season sharovarin, which started on 20 August 2016 and ended on 11 January 2017, exported 344 thousand tons of sugar, that is 33 times more compared to the same period a year earlier. During this period, as reported, Ukrtsukor, they have processed 13.7 million tons of sugar beet, which produced 2.01 million tons of sugar, despite the fact that the demand of the Ukrainian domestic market in 2017 is estimated at 1.54 million tons.

Last year the production of raw sugar has increased in comparison with the previous year by 30%, sugar production – by 40%. In 2016, the farmers took a beet 284 thousand hectares as against 239 thousand hectares in 2015.
