The site will have to pay a fine
A final decision regarding the court case between website for downloading music YouTube-MP3.org and a number of record labels, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group.
The judge has not yet signed the document, but it says that the decision was made in favor of the record companies. The site will have to pay a penalty and to transfer the domain to the plaintiff.
YouTube-MP3.org allows you to convert YouTube videos into downloadable MP3 files. The American Association for record companies (RIAA) has named the service the world’s largest website for audio.
The label has registered a complaint of copyright infringement in September last year. It said that the site is responsible for “over 40 %” of all cases of illegal extraction of audio files. According to a study conducted in 2016 the International Federation of producers of phonograms (IFPI), this method of loading songs is one of the largest examples of piracy in the music industry. Almost half of the people aged 16 to 24 years use sites like YouTube-MP3.org.
In the lawsuit mentioned 304 the songs, the assurances of the labels were illegally extracted from the videos. Among them — the Clarity of the German DJ Zedd, Born This Way pop singer Lady Gaga and Get Ur Freak On rapper Missy Elliott (Missy Elliott).
The record companies sought damages in the amount of $150 thousand for every proven case of copyright infringement. According to them, YouTube-MP3.org provided the illicit proliferation and has benefited from belonging to the label’s content by collecting advertising revenue by redirecting people to the site. The plaintiffs said that “tens or even hundreds of millions of songs illegally copied and distributed services to extract streaming music every month.”
If a final judgment is signed, then the domain should be transferred to the representative labels. Otherwise, the Registrar site will be forced to close the site within 24 hours. At the time of writing the news YouTube-MP3.org worked, but was not functioning fully.
