German photographer Jonathan Danko Kalkowski (Jonathan Danko Kielkowski) snuck into the body of the liner “Costa Concordia” in 2012 the wreck, and made the first ever since the pictures of the interiors: when the coast guard allowed journalists on Board, they were allowed to withdraw only what is visible from the outside.

The photographer admits that being on the ship one was terrible: “It’s hard to explain. The first hours were like a movie on autopilot. I was focused on passing, it took me two or three hours. There you can feel the panic. In closely, there still remains the passengers ‘Luggage and personal belongings”.

The photographer was always interested in the story of the wreck of the Concordia, in addition, 12 of the 32 victims were citizens of Germany as he is. So when the ship was raised and towed to Genoa before removing, it saw this as a chance. Access to the ship was closed, and when the photographer tried to get there, he was caught by the coast guard, and the official permission for the shooting could not be obtained.

The ship was moored 200 metres from the shore, and in the end Kalkowski reached it by swimming. The clothing and equipment he put in a waterproof bag.

One of the most sinister things that a photographer went through the ship, shooting theatre. In the halls and workrooms coast guard put the lighting, but the rest of the ship lurked in the dark. To photograph the theatre, Chelkowski chose the long exposure, so the camera could capture what he saw himself.

Only when the photographer returned home and began to process the photos he found a huge chandelier of the screaming. Kalkowski found in this poetry and compared the collapse of the liner with the ancient Greek tragedy: the mighty captain considered himself a God and made a mistake that led to chaos, and here on stage, screaming the chorus.

When Kalkowski returned to Germany and took apart take pictures, he decided to make an album of them. The Concordia publishing house printed in the White Press, the novelty is presented at a book fair in Los Angeles. Although the book attracted the attention of readers and media, the Italian coast guard for some reason does not respond.
