Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic during his speech at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly stressed full commitment to his state the values of the EU and supported the idea of EU enlargement.

“I am confident that our countries and their citizens no better future than the European Union. For most European countries, it’s the best option. European values the best response to nationalism and populism that vozrostaet lately. And we have consistently advocated the EU’s enlargement to the East” – said Markovic.
The head of the Montenegrin government also stressed that state-building in Montenegro, one of the youngest member countries of the UN (since 2006, after the restoration of independence), is based on the rule of human rights and democratic values, and to protect the rights of all minorities.
Markovic also said that the current situation in the Balkans “is much better than 20 years ago,” supported the referendum in Macedonia and expressed hope for successful development of dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.
In addition, the Prime Minister of Montenegro expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with the EU and the UN in addressing the issue of refugees arriving in Europe is increasingly using the so-called “Balkan route”.
