According to the law, the security services created operational and technical Agency, whose jurisdiction will include the wiretapping and recording of telephone conversations.
The Georgian Parliament adopted the law regarding the possibility of wiretapping of citizens.
The legislative package was adopted in the third reading 87 votes, voted against two members of Parliament. In the vote was attended by the opposition.
According to the document, the security services created operational and technical Agency, whose jurisdiction will include the wiretapping and recording of telephone conversations, receipt of information from channels of communication and computer systems, the establishment of geolocation in real time, control messages through the mail and the Telegraph.
In addition, the new structure will provide covert audio and video recording, photography, security in the field of electronic communications and information technology support for the state structures.
To manage the new Agency will be state security Service (SGB) of Georgia, and she will be accountable to the Prime Minister of the country.
The head of the Agency on the proposal of the head of state security appointed by the Prime Minister. Candidate in the Agency’s senior executives will approve the appointment of a special Commission of seven people representing the GBS, the Parliament, the Ombudsman and the government.
Meanwhile, the opposition indicate that the new law gives the secret service the opportunity at its own discretion without a court order to listen to conversations of any citizen.
