The former head of the ATO headquarters was sentenced to seven years in prison

He Nazarov denies any wrongdoing in the crash of Il-76.

Accused of negligence in the case of the downed Il-76 over Lugansk in 2014, major-General Viktor Nazarov was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. The corresponding decision was made by the court in Pavlograd Dnipropetrovsk region.

General Nazarov was found guilty of careless attitude towards military service in a combat situation. The prosecution stated that the General had ignored the warnings of the security Service of Ukraine about the threat of attack of the aircraft and allowed the operation of the movement of Marines from Dnepropetrovsk to Lugansk.

He Nazarov denied his guilt in the crash of Il-76. The defense asked the court to acquit the defendant, insisting on the lack of action of General criminal offense.

General Nazarov is the possibility to appeal the verdict on appeal.
