Today, on may 6, Ukraine celebrates the day of the first infantry.

The corresponding decree of the President Petro Poroshenko signed on April 19.

According to the decree No. 152/2019 is issued annually on may 6 to celebrate the Day of the infantry “for the purpose of honoring the courage and heroism of the soldiers of the mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault military units of Land forces of Armed forces of Ukraine”.

Mechanized, infantry, mountain assault military units form the basis of the army. They perform the task to hold the occupied boundaries and positions, repel attacks and breakthrough enemy forces, capture important areas, lines and objects in the area of operations of the combined forces in the Donbas.

“Today we celebrate the Day the first infantry, established by the decree of the President of Ukraine in April of this year. On this day, we Express our deep respect to all the soldiers of the mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault units and formations of the Land forces of the APU. It is on Your shoulders the main burden of the struggle for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Numerous examples of courage and heroism You displayed in the battles in the East, has become a model of loyalty and service to the Motherland”, – stated in the message on the page of staff of the EP on Facebook.

New thanked soldiers for their service.

“I am convinced that you will continue to successfully accomplish the combat tasks for the protection of the Ukrainian people, and this day will be a holiday for us true patriots and military professionals,” – said the commander of the OOS.
