British scientists shared their latest research results.
According to them, the ancient image of the symbol “zero” is in the Indian manuscript called “Bakhshali” and dates back to 3-4 century BC.
Experts from Oxford University have carried out a radiocarbon scanning of the manuscript that meets the “0” symbol, which gave the possibility to determine the time of its creation. It was written on the border of 3 and 4 centuries BC. e. Presumably, the authors of the works are Ancient scientists of India, a representation of a zero as a point and used it in their calculations. According to another version, the first zero began to enjoy the merchants of the silk Road.
All previously discovered artifacts with the symbol “zero” appeared after 9th century ad. The last discovery, “the Manuscript Bakhshali”, gives every reason to believe that zero appeared 500 years earlier than thought before.
Everyone will be able to see the manuscript at the exhibition in London, which opens on October 4 at the Science Museum.
