The expert explained why Ukraine needs another IMF loan

Ukraine can get a new loan and without pension reform.

Ukraine will not be able to pay off the debt in 2018 without obtaining new tranches of the IMF, however, can obtain a new loan and, without pension reform and the opening of the land market.

This opinion was expressed by economist Vsevolod Stepanyuk.

According to him, crediting of Ukraine is carried out for political reasons, not for any “beacons”. The expert recalled that, in accordance with the Memorandum between our country and the IMF until the end of may 2017 should be a law on the circulation of lands, but the bill is not even included in the agenda of the Parliament.

At the same time, Vsevolod Stepaniuk noted that Ukraine is extremely important to get IMF tranche to pay off previous debts to the Fund.

“If we don’t get IMF loans in the next year Ukraine will not be able to cover debt obligations, but about 2019, I generally keep quiet,” – said Stepanyuk.

Speaking about land reform, economist Vsevolod Stepaniuc said that it is detrimental to the economy of Ukraine the sale of agricultural land.

“This can lead to loss of property and the purchase of land by foreign multinationals. Why is the IMF? The Fund serves the interests of large foreign companies”, – the expert added.

Vsevolod Stepaniuc stressed that instead of selling the land should create conditions for a civilized rental units. In particular, according to the economist needs to be cleaned with the cost of rent which sometimes differ significantly, and the “rent is one of the types of ownership”.

We will remind, the IMF mission during a visit to Ukraine said that the key conditions for the next tranche of the loan are the implementation of land and pension reforms.
