The European Parliament has increased for Ukraine to trade quotas

The European Parliament approved the extension of trade preferences for Kiev “support economic development of Ukraine”. This was reported by the press service of the legislative body of the European Union.

The decision was taken on Tuesday, July 4, during the plenary session in maintaining the agreements reached in June at the meeting of the Committee of representatives of the EU countries. Voted 566 deputies, against was 96.

“The EU offers timely support to Ukraine, while also caring for the problems of our farmers. Providing new preferences, we want to support ongoing reforms to strengthen small and medium enterprises and to provide the necessary impetus to increase trade flows”, – said speaking at the session the Deputy of the EU Parliament from the European people’s party Jaroslaw Walesa.

“Package solution”
Lawmakers expressed support for a “package deal”, approved new concessions, but at the same time reducing the amount of additional quota to the number of items of agricultural products, including tomatoes and wheat.
The new rules will take effect after they’re approved by the EU Council.

The proposal complements the provisions on trade has already been entered in accordance with the signed in 2014 year agreement on Association Ukraine – EU. January 1, 2016 came into force the agreement on free trade zone between Brussels and Kiev. The Ministry of economic development and trade of Ukraine talked about the fact that this measure has eliminated 97% of tariffs on Ukrainian goods was supposed to lead to a reduction in the average tariff on Ukrainian exports from 7.5 to 0.5 percent.
